Key EdTech Trends for 2025: AI, Hybrid Education, and Augmented Realities

Educational technology’s popularity is booming! More companies and institutions started expanding their reach into the online space. Education software development services are popular like never before, and this train isn’t stopping.

With this year coming to an end, let’s talk about what to expect from the industry in the next one.

AI is here to stay and grow

Artificial intelligence was a hot new trend for a while. And no wonder — the technology benefits every industry it touches, including education.

Incorporating AI into education isn’t new. Many platforms use its power to create personalised recommendations and answer common questions. In the upcoming year, it looks like more online learning platforms are doubling down on AI to make even more personalised content.

A tailored approach makes EdTech stand out compared to physical education. Through a deep analysis of students’ interests and their strong sides, AI can find the most suitable skills a student might need in the future. Personalisation is the future of every industry, including education.

Self-driven education

Traditional education creates a great foundation of knowledge for the future workforce. However, it only covers some of the niche skills a student might need in the future.

EdTech aims to provide both, depending on the student’s needs. Simply put, it divides all content into two categories: long-term (strengthening the foundation) and short-term (learning specialised skills) education.

In the following year, we see EdTech expanding on this concept, providing students with a clear indication of their strengths and which skills they lack to work in the desired field.

Hybrid education

Hybrid education brings EdTech to schools, making online resources accessible to students. This is especially useful for regions with poor accessibility to education and underfunded institutions.

Integrating EdTech into classrooms helps teachers, too. These tools can help manage and grade students’ performance, as well as provide a direct line of communication between students and teachers.

In 2025, we expect more schools and universities to adopt EdTech, combining the best of traditional and online learning.

More augmented realities

Another technology that is gaining popularity in EdTech is augmented and virtual realities (AR and VR). A high level of interaction and immersion keeps students engaged in the learning process and reinforces learned information through complementary visuals.

EdTech has already adopted AR and VR to fit its needs, though the next year seems different. This is because of rising interest in augmented realities, which is making a comeback. Not only do we have the technology, but this time — we also have the tools to utilise it.

Conclusion

2024 was an outstanding year for EdTech. We saw interesting ideas and their implementation into the education process, and the rise in popularity throughout traditional education institutions.

Looking for what comes next, the higher AI implementation and emphasis on self-driven education make online learning even more approachable for students who want to learn specialised skills.

At the same time, a hybrid form of education and the use of augmented realities are taking physical classrooms by storm.
