Artificial intelligence in education

Why are private schools choosing artificial intelligence?

Widespread use of AI in our lives

AI is a set of algorithms, which try to replicate the functions of our brain. AI technology has become one of the fastest growing and most promising directions. We have already got accustomed to smart voice assistants, neural networks which draw pictures, write texts and music. Cambridge University experts named the use of AI as one of the core trends of EdTech-2023.

Artificial intelligence is no longer a science fiction, but a real part of our everyday life, and that is why it is worth thinking about teaching it at school: if children understand how these technologies work from an early age, they will be able to better navigate the modern world. AI-based technologies are changing the way we work with information, learning, and communication. Neural networks are able to search and organize data, generate ideas and new content. This explains the high relevance of the use of artificial intelligence in the field of education.

What are the benefits of AI in education?

You can ask a question why AI should be used in education.  Many parents consider that the use of AI in private schools may lead to deterioration of the education quality. However, we can mention many advantages of using AI in the educational process, among which are:

·    Generate images for visual presentation;

·    Compose texts;

·    Offer game mechanics on a given topic;

·    Teaching the basics of AI develops critical thinking skills in children: they begin to ask questions, try to understand how algorithms work, what data the neural network uses, and how it makes decisions.

So, gradually, AI provides new opportunities for teaching methods and student development. Adaptive learning has become a noticeable trend in education. Systems developed using AI are able to analyze student progress data, identify their weaknesses, and offer customized materials and support.

How can AI be used in education?

The educational process is aimed at the developing thinking and speech of each student. AI analyzes exactly how the child speaks, how he forms sentences, and makes recommendations to teachers and parents. Through the development of thinking and reflective practices, teachers can also achieve greater awareness and independence of students. So, schools can practice personalized learning with AI, which results in good performance of all students.

By collecting digital profiles of children, teachers, the student himself and his parents can see from the outside in what roles he can be comfortable, how he likes to think, to behave, what he is interested in. As a result, all this data is used to build professional trajectories, to determine the further path of the child’s development when he gets into the “adult world” after completing school studies.

Another example of this technology in education concerns modeling real—world situations to which the material being studied can be linked. This helps to move away from abstract concepts, to show students the importance and benefits of new knowledge. For instance, a math teacher is preparing for a lesson about geometric progression in a US private school. In order not to explain the topic only in theory, the teacher wants to supplement the material with practical examples. It is also convenient to involve neural networks in the search for such examples. There is no need to strain your imagination or search for information on the Internet. It is enough to open a chat with AI and write a query in free form, for example, “where geometric progressions are used in life.” AI will generate an unlimited number of options in a few seconds, from which you can choose the examples with the highest relevance.

In addition to it, with AI facial recognition and visual data processing technology is used, allowing the teacher to control the level of student engagement in the lesson. The system monitors signs of boredom, fatigue, and loss of concentration. Technology has great potential in the field of education. Thanks to AI, the teacher gets the opportunity to form an educational program as efficiently as possible. For example, if the students are tired, a teacher can switch to a different presentation format or take a break.

AI in private schools – individual approach to studying

The pace of learning for each person and the nature of assimilation of new information are deeply individual. However, in the context of mass education, it is difficult to take into account all these nuances — for example, a teacher, explaining new material, focuses on average indicators. Adaptive learning is based on the needs of a particular student. It is possible to create an individual studying track with the help of artificial intelligence. Also the use of AI in education will allow you to find problematic places in the composition of educational courses — sections and tasks in which students make the most mistakes. This is very convenient for the teacher — he can pay more attention to these aspects, for example, by further working on a complex topic. A neural network can also be useful for self-diagnosis. Analyzing the history of user actions, the educational platform with integrated AI offers targeted content that accurately corresponds to the objective level of knowledge. The technology implemented into the educational services also helps with the development of specific practical skills: for example, on an educational platform it recognizes the student’s spoken speech, and then analyzes grammar, pronunciation and vocabulary and shows errors.

Also experts consider that AI will free a person from routine activities, providing him with more opportunities to develop in the humanities and the arts. Modern education should specialize in developing human qualities and skills that are not yet available to artificial intelligence. In the future, humanitarian specialists will become more in demand, and AI will become an assistant in unlocking people’s potential.
