The Data Scientist

The London Data Science Meetup: February 2021

Some of you might know that I am the organiser for the London Data Science meetup. The Meetup had been dead for a few years, and I thought it’s a good idea to bring it back to life. It looks like social distancing will be here for a while, so I thought it would be a good idea to run an online event. The event proved to be successful, getting around 30 participants, and speakers from many different countries!

On this event we had the chance to have 4 great speakers:

  1. Joshua Cage
  2. Tarek Amr
  3. Kyriacos Pavlou from Electi Consulting
  4.  Eleftherios Jerry Floros

Josua Cage talked about natural language processing, and more specifically about the history of transformers in deep learning. Tarek Amr talked about the relationship between machine learning engineers and product managers, and where he sees the field to be moving in the next few years.

Kyriacos Pavlou from Electi Consulting talked about how blockchain can be used in order to issue certificates in the shipping industry, a use case that will become more popular in the next few years.

Finally, Eleftherios Jerry Floros gave his opinion as to where he sees AI to be heading in the next few years, and what changes we might witness in society as a result.
